Police Abolition
Organized Abandonment
Ihr seid keine Sicherheit is an abolitionist group from Berlin, that seeks to highlight that the police do not provide safety for everyone and are in fact structurally unable to do so. We are determined to fight criminalization and expansion of police powers, challenge right-wing structures in the police and imagine alternatives beyond policing.
Since our founding in 2021 we have especially focused on counter-narratives surrounding the widespread copaganda to show that policing aims to discipline and punish marginalized communities. In the city context, we are demanding the abolition of "KbOs", which are zones that are labeled as especially dangerous, and grant police additional powers such as randomized stop and search. We see the zoning of poor, migrant, and gentrifying districts as a clear attempt to control and contain marginalized communities in order to advance gentrification and implement law-and-order policies.
We are simultaneously invested in researching the many intersections between police units and right-wing extremist militias. While those connections are commonly portrayed as “bad apples” or exceptional, we argue that police culture is ideologically and structurally aligned with racist ideals. With the help of antifascist groups, we research prominent cases of police aiding or outright joining militias to highlight the institutional failures of the state to hold police officers accountable and to show the intersections between policing and racism on an institutional level.
Finally, we are working on alternative visions for a world without police. Here, we are trying to figure out the applicability of transformative justice and community accountability in our context. Instead of answering precarity and violence with further state-sanctioned violence, we demand investment into life-giving and sanctions-free institutions that grant access to welfare, healthcare, and immigration.
