JUSTICE COLLECTIVE IS A BERLIN-BASED PROJECT THAT ACTS
JUSTICE COLLECTIVE IST EIN IN BERLIN ANSÄSSIGES PROJEKT:
OUR CURRENT PROJECTS INCLUDE:
To reveal how governments punish, including in ways that target people experiencing poverty and inequality, people of racialized groups, and people making a life for themselves in new places.
To build and connect international movements because while local contexts may differ, people in different places confront similar causes of carcerality.
To end societies' reliance on policing, punishment, and prisons. To build communities that choose justice over jails; care over carcerality.
OUR CURRENT PROJECTS INCLUDE:
Racism on Trial: Justice Collective has launched Racism on Trial, an online platform that documents racism in the courts through court observations, revealing the injustices we observe in court in our case archive and findings; organizes for justice, including by sharing resources for others to courtwatch as activism and materials for people impacted by mass criminalization; and shares the perspectives of other activists and communities impacted by and resisting the systemic injustices of the criminal legal system.
Collective courtwatching: Justice Collective regularly engages in collective courtwatching with activists in Berlin to monitor injustices in the court; shift power dynamics; and support people impacted by these systems.
Coalition to Abolish Debtors' Prisons: Justice Collective is co-convener of and participant in the Coalition to Abolish Debtors' Prisons, or Bündnis zur Abschaffung der Ersatzfreiheitsstrafe, a self-organized coalition of grassroots groups, individuals, and NGOs fighting to end Germany's practice of jailing people for unpaid fines. The ultimate goal of this campaign is to abolish mass criminalization and punishment in Germany. (Learn more at ersatzfreiheitsstrafe.de)
